yikes.

roy: "did you know that smiling is a cure for cancer?"
brian: "yeah? well so is rubbing peanut butter over your eyelids before you go to bed."

......somebody's sassy this morning.

today

"fight for happiness. be bold. say yes. and then relax into it. ride the wave. recognize that this thing you think is terrifying might actually be thrilling. and you'll look back in ten years and wonder where that feeling went--that one that you're fighting so hard against right now--and you'll find yourself praying for a way to get it back. imagine that. so enjoy it. live in it. revel in the unknown and uncertain and the delicious discomfort of it.

and know that you're worth it."

sunday

maybe it was the weather, or that my sister’s boyfriend swept the floor for me despite the sling around his arm, or maybe it was the purple dress that i wore to church with the nude heels that are totally worth the pain they inflict upon my feet, or maybe it was getting to make chicken alfredo for ten of us, or seeing friends and family that i love all sitting together at the dinner table on our front lawn, or maybe it was the teasing and laughing that happened all night, or the hand on my leg under the table just to remind me that it was there, or maybe it was all the giggling that you wouldn’t think could come out of the mouths of grown men, or maybe it was the rolo cookies and the three bottles of martinelli’s and the one bottle of some interesting looking mango lemonade, or maybe it was the sweet boy doing my dishes or walking into the living room and catching some lovebirds kissing on the couch, or maybe it was just that it was sunday and sundays are the best days, but whatever it was, there was a point yesterday when i looked around me and thought, this is it. this is what it feels like, to be way behind on sleep and to have a take-home midterm and an unwritten six-page paper waiting in your backpack and to have romaine lettuce scattered all over the floor in the kitchen and a million dishes to wash and, regardless of all of that, to be utterly and irrevocably happy.

just livin' the dream.

this is what happens after you wake up on a saturday morning to clean the house, which leads to throwing on a plaid shirt and going to target, which leads to running into Mo, which leads to a 20 minute search for cotton balls, which leads to going to lunch with more friends, which leads to going back to the boys' house to watch the byu/texas game, which leads to realizing that the game doesn't start for 2 hours, which leads to an impromptu double dutch sesh in the street.

my friend Bartok

happy saturday!

♥♥♥

yeah, hence!

school started last week. which means a multitude of things:

convenient byu bookstore walk-throughs, hence, better missionary writer.
convenient byu bookstore walk-throughs, hence, return of the yogurt-pretzel addiction.
absolutely ridiculous south of campus parking situation, hence, increased level of road rage.
addition of a million plus more people on campus, hence, increased level of sidewalk rage.
15 credits of upper level English classes, hence, sudden disappearance of social life.
15 credits of upper level English classes, hence, increased levels of anxiety.
absolutely ridiculous south of campus parking situation, hence, longer walks, hence, firmer bum.
long hours spent in the library, hence, optimal circumstances for prime-time people-watching.

the list goes on. but i think what i really, truly want to gain from this semester is the ability to retain at least five new words to add to my vernacular so people will think i’m smarter.

there's gotta be a few hidden perks of having an arduous semester ahead of you, right?

yeah, that's right. arduous.

see ya.

from the mouth of joe .2

(at liz's graduation)
uncle carl: "i can't figure out which one is liz... joe, what color shoes is she wearing?"
joe: "ummm.... sparkly."

me: "i dont know what to do about that boy."
joe: "drop him like he's hot, jen. drop him like he's hot."

liz: "you should have seen joe today at our ward BBQ playing soccer, he plowed over some man's wife."
joe: "SHE WAS IN THE WAY!"

me: "are you really watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer?"
joe (not listening to me): "oh noooo there's not enough time! they're breaking down the door!! go through the manhole!!!!"
